Proposal Title:
\nThe Role of Art and Culture in Mongolian Foreign Policy<\/p>\n
The image of Mongolia as a remote and backward country is solidly rooted in Western imagination until modern days. The democratic changes and the recent economic growth, despite some positive achievements, are not helping to change a proper look at Mongolia from outside world. A distorted image of Mongolia is detrimental for Mongolia in many ways–from running business till a private household, and continously contributing to misunderstanding. It is not all the fault of the Westerners, however. Mongolians, and especially governmental agencies that represent Mongolia often present wrong images to the world. How do we change our own efforts for shaping a righteous image of Mongolia to the world? Based on historical examples, it is proven that Art and culture play a central role in breaking stereotypes and creating a fresh understanding of a country. This is an important question that this presentation will discuss and suggest to be taken as a part of foreign policy.<\/p>\n
